Better Than Ramen’s name comes from the stereotype that college students have to survive off of packets of instant ramen. When it was first launched, Better Than Ramen strove to break that stereotype by presenting readers with dorm-friendly recipes and tried-and-true restaurant suggestions.
Better Than Ramen began 3 years ago when founder Ana Cvetkovic decided she wasn’t going to settle for cafeteria food during college. Now that Ana has graduated and is transitioning into adulthood, so is Better Than Ramen.
Today, Better Than Ramen is the young professional’s guide to eating your way through your new city without spending your whole paycheck.
Moving to a new city and starting a job after college can be intimidating. Better Than Ramen has taken one thing off your plate by making it easy to navigate your new city’s food scene. From the good to the bad, we’ve tried it all. We are passing our wisdom onto you, so that when you do spend your precious paycheck on a meal out, it’s on something worthwhile.
Better Than Ramen was started by Ana when she was a student at GWU, so Washington is BTR’s home base.
Ana grew up in Philly, which is why you’ll find many restaurant reviews from that area as well.
Ana now lives in Chicago and is building up her catalogue of restaurant reviews for you.
Ana was born in Belgrade and spends most of her summers in Serbia. Many posts reference her Serbian heritage. You can find a list of all the Serbian recipes, restaurant reviews and guides posted on BTR HERE.
The other cities represented are ones that Ana and our other contributors have visited on their travels.
