The interior of Commissary

Commissary’s interior is decorated like a modern, patriotic farm house. Deep blues and reds cover the walls and comfy seats line the floors. I sat outside, which made for great people-watching in the bustling Logan Circle neighborhood.

Mushroom and Onion Pizza

I tried the Mushroom Pizza ($14) which was topped with portabella and shiitake mushrooms, caramelized onions and cambozola cheese. The pizza was great, and definitely big enough for two people. The onions were sweet, and there was something else in the pizza that was slightly spicy. It was a good combo overall. The cambozola cheese reminded me of bleu cheese (I’m unfamiliar with cambozola) and there was no sauce, which worked well. I would definitely recommend the pizza.

Next came the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel Rum Sauce ($6.75 – see featured photo). I was really looking forward to it, but it failed to meet my expectations. The bread pudding wasn’t warm. I would consider myself a bread pudding connoisseur, and this was just an average rendition of the dessert.
The friend who brought me to Commissary says that the burgers are outstanding. She recommends the California Burger (topped with avocado, sprouts, tomatoes and giardiniera for $11) and the Veggie Burger (a quinoa and mixed bean burger for $9.25). Another friend also endorses the veggie burger. The menu also has a Bison Burger (with goat cheese and caramelized onions for $15), which is pretty unique.
Although the bread pudding was disappointing, the pizza was really good. I would come back and probably try one of the amazing burgers.
