My friend Rachel has been raving about Dangerously Delicious since I’ve met her. I recently went to the pie shop on H Street NE with her to see what all the hype was about.
Dangerously Delicious offers a variety of sweet pies, savory pies, and quiches by the slice and by the pie. Flavors include options like Chocolate Pecan, Pancake Batter, BBQ Pork Pie, and Bacon Onion Gruyere Quiche, but when I went on a busy weekend evening, many of the slices had sold out.
I went with a slice of Winter Berry Pie ($6.50). Although I don’t consider myself a “pie person,” this was quite delicious. I wouldn’t say it was dangerously so, but it was tasty nevertheless. The filling included pears and berries. I was expecting more of the crust from a place that specializes in pies. It was thick and hard, and I would’ve liked it to have been flaky and warm. You can request whipped cream behind the counter, so I took advantage of that opportunity.
The ambiance of Dangerously Delicious matched the overall vibe of the H Street neighborhood: eclectic, funky and cool. Trance music played in the dimly lit shop. Edgy photos of musicians hung on a red and black wall. The opposite wall was green and featured a collage of art prints. Some customers grabbed a quick slice to go, while others occupied a table or counter seat and chatted with friends.
I liked what I had at Dangerously Delicious. I’m a quiche-lover, so I will definitely be back for that in the future.
