Soall Bistro is a cute Vietnamese restaurant decorated with more charm than any other place I’ve been to serving similar cuisine. From the wood paneling to the chic, neutral color theme and the funky pillows in the window seats, this restaurant is well suited for the beach town it’s located in.
I came to Soall Bistro because my friend told me that they served vermicelli noodles with egg rolls , one of my favorite noodle dishes. I love egg rolls and spring rolls, but I rarely order them as an appetizer, so this dish gives me the best of both worlds at the same time. I previously ate a similar noodle-and-egg-roll dish at Pho DC, in Washington, so I was comparing the two versions.
The Vermicelli Noodles with Crispy Egg Rolls ($8.95) consisted of vermicelli noodles tossed with fresh cucumber, carrots, lettuce and tomatoes and topped with egg roll halves. The dish was served with a sweet, orange sauce on the side. This dish was definitely not as good as the one I had at Pho DC. There wasn’t enough sauce, which helps bring together the ingredients, so the fresh-veggie-and-noodle combination didn’t work very well. There was also way too much lettuce in the dish, so I felt like I was eating a salad with vermicelli noodles. The dish just wasn’t very cohesive.
The Bottom Line:
To summarize my review of Soall Bistro: cute place, mediocre food.
